Using the Budget Planner
Monthly
Expense Tracking Tabs The monthly tracking tabs are a very important part of everyone's budget. These
are used to determine, and work with, possible problem areas in your budget.
As you progress through the month and pay bills, dine out,
buy groceries, etc., record ALL of your expenditures for the month under the
appropriate date and category. If you have more than one expense for the same
category on the same day you can use an Excel formula such as "=6.65+34.15"
(without the quotes, of course) into the appropriate cell and Excel will
automatically display the sum.

To the far left of the spreadsheet is an End-Of-Month Total
column where you can see how much you have spent for each category for the
month. If you have spent more than your recommended amount for a given category
(as set up on the Budget tab) it will display in red
to alert you to a possible budget buster. If you do go over for a given category
you will need to spend less in another category to balance this out.
Also, along located in the lower right-hand corner of the
spreadsheet you can find your grand totals for the month.

Tip: Since it may be cumbersome to enter items into
your tracking sheet every day many people find it useful to carry a small
'spending list' in their purse or wallet to record items where receipts are not
possible to obtain, such as vending machines and small vendors. Simply make a
record of each expense on your list with the date, amount, and a short
description of the item purchased. At the end of the week simply transfer all of
your items from your list to your spreadsheet. This helps to ensure accurate
reporting and balanced budgeting!
