Graduated Payment Mortgage

Graduated Payment Mortgages have payments that start off low and gradually increase at predetermined periods. These initial low payments allow borrowers to qualify for larger loans than they could currently afford because they are banking that their net income will increase in time and the higher payments will become affordable.

Graduated Payment Mortgages may be negatively amortizing (you are paying less then what covers the interest rate) during the first few years and will then ‘catch up’ once the payments start increasing.
